Retired businessman Elliott McKelvie has been appointed as the new chair of Inverclyde Community Fund.

Elliott joined the fund’s board in early 2023 and has extensive experience in business, governance, and community development.

He is a trustee of several charities and served for 13 years as a director and then chairman of Greenock Arts Guild Ltd, where he led the client group that designed and developed the Beacon Arts Centre. Elliott played a pivotal role in securing more than £10 million of public and private funding for the project.

He is also Secretary of Greenock Burns Club (The Mother Club) and a trustee of the Wyllieum.

Born and raised in Port Glasgow, educated in Greenock, and now living in Gourock, Elliott is passionate about making Inverclyde an attractive place to live, work, and visit.

He said: “I am honoured to take on the role of chair at Inverclyde Community Fund (ICF). Our local charities and community groups do incredible work, and ICF exists to support and empower them.

“I look forward to working with the board and our partners to grow the fund and make a real difference across Inverclyde.”

Outgoing chair Liz Robertson said: “It has been a privilege to serve as chair of Inverclyde Community Fund and to see the positive impact it has on our communities. I am delighted to hand over to Elliott, whose experience and passion for Inverclyde will help take the fund forward into an exciting new chapter.”

Inverclyde Community Fund is a charitable fund dedicated to supporting local voluntary organisations, community groups, and grassroots projects across Inverclyde.

Since its inception, ICF has awarded thousands of pounds in grants to initiatives that tackle social isolation, improve health and wellbeing, enhance local environments and create opportunities for people of all ages.

The fund is managed by a voluntary board of trustees, with every penny managed by the fund staying in Inverclyde.

Inverclyde Community Fund is seeking committed and enthusiastic individuals to join its board. Board members help shape the fund’s strategy, ensure strong governance, and champion community-led initiatives. The deadline is 12 February and those interested can apply online.
