Inverclyde Council has been awarded £11m to create new and refurbished commercial premises.
Several major projects will now be taken forward after the money was agreed by Glasgow City Region which has set up a £64m fund to address the lack of available modern, high-quality premises for businesses across eight council areas.
Inverclyde would normally have received around £1m from the fund, based on its population, but the City Region cabinet approved nearly £10m extra for the district after deciding to give the area priority status.
The list of proposed new or refurbished commercial and industrial space is:
£4.5m phase two for Kelburn Industrial Estate, Port Glasgow
£3m terrace of workshop units at the former council depot site at Crescent Street, Greenock
£500,000 refurbishment of the council’s Ingleston depot, Greenock, for sale or let to commercial occupiers. The depot has already been earmarked for closure as a saving.
£4.5m for either commercial/incubator space, with potential skills/innovation centre, at Inchgreen; or potential business hub at Wallace Place offices, Greenock, dependent on project scoping.
All projects are required to be completed by 2030.
