Plans have been submitted to transform a large commercial property in Greenock town centre into a modern healthcare hub, bringing physiotherapy and dental services together under one roof.
The proposed multi-disciplinary facility is planned for 12 Jamaica Street, a building previously occupied as a furniture shop, giving the prominent town centre premises an exciting new purpose.
If approved, the redevelopment will see the former retail unit repurposed into a dedicated healthcare facility designed to serve the local community.
The plans include five physiotherapy treatment rooms, a rehabilitation gymnasium., four dental treatment rooms, two consultation suites and staff facilities, including a boardroom.
The proposal also includes external alterations to the building, with planning permission being sought for changes including blocking up two existing doorways, installing a replacement entrance door, two new windows and a glazed shopfront.
The development would create a purpose-built space where multiple healthcare services operate from one convenient location.
Facilities such as these can offer greater convenience for patients by bringing complementary services together within the same building, while making effective use of existing commercial premises in the heart of the town centre.
As town centres continue to evolve, projects like this highlight how vacant retail units can be successfully adapted to meet changing community needs. The reuse of a former furniture shop for healthcare services represents another example of commercial property finding a new role beyond traditional retail.
The planning application has been submitted by Philip Paul, practice owner and manager of Clyde Injury Clinic on nearby Brougham Street.
If approved, the project would deliver a purpose-designed healthcare hub combining physiotherapy, rehabilitation and dental services within one modern facility, further strengthening Greenock's growing range of healthcare provision while giving a well-known commercial property a new lease of life.
Bowman Rebecchi was delighted to support the sale of this property and wish the new owners every success with their plans.
