Lifelong dog lover Kara Murdoch has opened Unleashed Indoor Dog Park in Larkfield Industrial Estate.
The 24-year-old decided to set up the business after realising during her work as a dog walker that there was nowhere indoors to take dogs in Inverclyde to play freely.
She said: “I've loved dogs since I was a child – I think every child does. I created this for people who also love dogs.
“I started dog walking a year ago and you’re just always soaked and there's nowhere to go inside and take your dogs. I thought I’d just open my own.
“You go to the Battery Park and there are people who are just out there for a walk themselves, and then your dog comes over to them, and they're getting annoyed at you. So this is just a place for people who love dogs, hopefully as much as I do.”
Kara saidit was important for her to include more than just agility equipment at the facility, knowing from first-hand experience that her dogs prefer parks with toys as well.
There is also something for the owners with the ‘human area’ featuring seating and a coffee machine, with coffees included in the fee.
Kara says this will provide parents with young families a place to relax while they let their dogs off the lead.
She said: “People with prams and babies can come up here, sit in and have a coffee.
“That's really tricky if you've got a new baby or toddlers and you can't get your dog out as much as you used to.
“The dogs are having fun while you are too, because if you go to coffee shops and stuff, they've kind of got to sit there really well behaved.”
She can’t wait to get started this week and says the early signs are looking positive for the new business.
She said: “I’m very excited. We've already got quite a few bookings, I think we've only got three or four slots left, which is really good.
“People kind of warned against me opening in the summer, that it would maybe be a bit quieter, which I was aware of, not that we get much of a summer, anyway.
“Even when we had that freak heat wave, I was up here with the dogs during the day, because I couldn't get them out walking, so it's even for days like that, when it's too hot.”
Bowman Rebecchi was delighted to support Kara with the letting of this Commercial unit and we wish her team every success with the new venture.
